On December 26, 2004, an earthquake in the Indian Ocean off of the coast of Sumatra (a magnitude 9 out of 12 on the Richter scale), started several tsunamis (tidal waves) that took more than 200,000 lives. It was the deadliest natural disaster in the past 25 years.
The Sumatra earthquake was so powerful that scientists believe it moved some islands more than 50 feet!

On October 8, 2005 an earthquake registering 7.6 on the moment magnitude scale (a successor to the Richter scale) hit Northern Pakistan, India and the disputed territory of Kashmir in South Asia. This was a major earthquake similar in intensity to the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. On November 2, 2005 the Pakistani government issued a revised official death toll figure of 73,276. Some estimate that this number could rise as high as 100,000. An estimated 3.3 million people were left homeless as a result of this earthquake and resulting landslides.
Revelation 6:14: "And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places."
As horrific as the Sumatran earthquake and tsunamis of December 2004 were, Revelation tells us that during the Tribulation there will be an earthquake like the earth has never seen, the sun will turn black and the moon blood red, stars will fall to earth and EVERY mountain and island will be moved out of their place. It will be so horrific that the Bible says kings and leaders of the world will want the rocks to fall on them to hide them from the face of God and the wrath of the Lamb (Jesus). Rev. 6:12-17
A major earthquake occurred at 12:19:08 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2006. The magnitude 7.5 event has been located in MOZAMBIQUE.
At least five aftershocks were immediately recorded and more are expected in the coming days because of the quake's size, said Rafael Abreu, of the National Earthquake Information Center.
The National Earthquake Information Center has recorded over 400 earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 1.8 to 7.5 in February, 2006 alone! (As of Feb. 23, 2006)
